Nippon Daisy (Nipponanthemum nipponicum)
We're THRILLED to share this high-performing, low-maintenance perennial with you—available in limited quantities for our online community. Meet the Nippon Daisy or also known as the Montauk Daisy is an elegant, late-season bloomer that's here to keep your garden vibrant and stunning well into autumn, and sometimes even into early winter!
This daisy gets its Nippon-heavy naming from its origin: these plants are native to the coastal cliffs of Japan, where they tolerate all sorts of growing conditions like salt spray from the ocean, high winds, and even some drought once fully established. Its natural adaptability makes it a great choice for a multitude of growing conditions in the garden too--Nippon Daisies thrive in sunny locations, rock gardens, and even containers anywhere in its hardiness range.
The Nippon Daisy is a major standout from other daisies and chrysanthemums. While most other plants are preparing for dormancy, the Nippon Daisy bursts onto the scene with spectacular blooms from late September all the way through November. Its vibrantly white flowers are and are HUGE and serve as a nice contrast against its dark, succulent-like foliage.
