Hoya imperialis 'red' defies every preconceived notion of a wax plant with its huge, stiff, cardboard-like foliage. Its large stature doesn't end there either–Hoya imperialis has GIGANTIC, deep red to maroon flowers, much bigger than you'll find on other species. This Hoya is native to Asiatic countries like Borneo, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Hoya, more commonly known as wax plants, are a genus of well over 500 different plants. Most of them are either epiphytes or lithophytes, growing on other plants or surfaces. Because they don't typically grow in the ground, Hoya prefer a chunky, well-draining potting mix that doesn't retain water for too long. Keep your Hoya in a space indoors with plenty of bright sunlight and water when the potting mix is almost completely dry.
