Named after an art technique called chiaroscuro, meaning the bold play between light and dark. This fimbriated semi-cactus stunner delivers dynamic 5- to 7-inch blooms that look like firework displays. Deep, velvety, near-black plum-purple centers stretch out into quilled, pointed petals that split at the tips to reveal striking frosty-white and magenta accents. Held up on sturdy dark stems and rich green foliage, these electric, high-contrast flowers bring a moody sophistication to the garden.

• LIGHT: Full sun; partial sun

• WATER: Water deeply and thoroughly when soil begins to dry

• ZONE: Zones 8–11 (In Zones 3–7, dig tubers up after the first light frost and store indoors over winter)

• SIZE: 3.5 – 4 feet tall

• GROOVY TIP: High-contrast bi-color dahlias like 'Clair Obscur' look insanely vibrant when planted alongside silver foliage and dark jewel-toned companions! Try pairing 'Clair Obscur' with silvery Artemisia, Dusty Miller, or deep burgundy dahlias like 'Black Cat'.
