This fimbriata dahlia fires off massive 6- to 8-inch blooms packed with quilled, velvety petals that twist into fiery starbursts. Drenched in a deep magenta-purple that glows against dark green foliage, 'Ambition' lives up to its name. Plus, because its spiky, pointed petals don't hold onto rainwater like flat blooms, these flowers stand tall and proud even after a heavy summer thunderstorm.

• LIGHT: Full sun; partial sun

• WATER: Water deeply and thoroughly when soil begins to dry

• ZONE: Zones 8–11 (In Zones 3–7, dig tubers up after the first light frost and store indoors over winter)
